I call this group of work senescence from the biological condition or process of deterioration that happens in living organisms - which is the source data inspiring each piece. (Link to more about my senescence process.) When I return from harvesting spent flower blossoms and printing, in fields all along the Atlantic coast, each monoprint is photographed to preserve its integrity. My harvest season begins each spring as far south as Geneva, FL - and concludes at summer’s end in eastern Quebec. My paintings are an extension of this process, a rereading of my prints.
The original monoprints are ephemeral; their colors change due to time and light exposure. But quickly captured digitally, fresh from the field, I can produce archival pigment prints of any size. This is an exciting transformation as their detail - amplified - is breathtaking!
