Senescence works are inspired by monoprints I make in the field from spent flower blossoms. I harvest and then arrange them onto my picture plane. And using the weight of my big, beautiful body - I dance to press them. The chemical changes happening within blossoms after peak bloom, when conventional beauty is gone, produce extraordinarily compelling chromatogram prints. They reflect cell senescence. Vibrant and voluptuous color shapes, textures, and a sense of movement are captured in each print. Variables like soil content, time of day, and climate affect outcomes. And although fleeting, as natural pigments mellow quite quickly, I discovered that when backlit the print's original dynamism is revealed intact. In new paintings, drawings, collages I'm playing with compositional elements infused in the print itself - visible even in prints made several years ago.
