Intrigued by ways we perceive truth and use data to support our viewpoints, in my artwork I metaphorically use raw data, collected from nature. These naturally occurring data are not numeric and there's no computer involved in my analysis. Instead, these rudimentary elements from nature provide an endless resource for my qualitative analysis. When pressed onto my picture plane, these elements express themselves and are my starting point. Lines, shapes, forms, colors, textures - direct my actions. The results reveal what I see.
What we see and how we see, are idiosyncratic. Being fully conscious of our inherent biases can help us cultivate an empathetic appreciation for one another, and our differences. The marks I make note my interpretation of the data and reflect the unique truth, logic, and beauty I see. While my biases certainly direct what viewers initially see in these works, my intention is for viewers to contemplate the data in their own way.
